A welcoming nine-room, part-gay-run establishment with a gay history going back to the 1970s under previous owner Herman, whose then-named West End Hotel offered the gay traveller a reliable, budget and basic experience. Under new ownership the hotel reopened in 2001, reinvented with modernised facilities and overseen by a dedicated and on-site team of four men. Amstad Hotel
Have already stayed in this hotel and going for our honeymoon in December. Never searched for another hotel since the 1st day we set our feet in their. Great staff and fantastic atmosphere. Hotel is very clean and well organised.
My Fabulous Stay w Handsome Joost & Staff
i stayed n the b&b of hotel only several yards away the room was very european quaint...the breakfast served @ the hotel was like eating @ home on holiday with friends ..always a nice am greet!!! food was good and he managed to make sure u were satisfied..very knowledgeable on giving explicit direction & comment on things to see & do!!! coming back again n april and will stay as a guest again..also 5 bars in the shame block of hotel & b&b
Very friendly staff
The hotel is typical for old Europe, not very big. We had a room with our own bathroom which always comes in handy when you don't get home from drinking til 4am!!! The staff at Amistad was great. Michael or Rick cooked some really good breakfasts for us (included with stay). It was walking distance to most everything and there were a few gay bars/clubs right on the same street. Go to Church Bar if you want to have fun (by fun I mean..sex). I don't know why they just don't call it a sex club! This was my third time to Amsterdam and my first stay at Amistad. Definitely recommend it...
Nothing special
This hotel is a pretty good walk (20+ minutes) from most of the gay nightlife. To try to overcome this deficiency, the staff suggests only one club, which happens to be only about 25 meters from the hotel. The shared bathrooms were not great (the toilet room had no heat, which was pretty miserable with the chill!). Neither my room nor my bathroom looked anything like the pictures on their website, but I was in the lowest room category. It was an OK place to sleep, but not worth any 'gay premium'.
