Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

Art that is mostly so last century
An impressive and popular collection of modern and contemporary art and design from the early 20th century up to the 21st century, including painting, sculpture, installations, prints and drawings, posters, photography, graphic design, film and much more, from Cézanne to Kandinsky to de Kooning. The Dutch neo-renaissance building, designed by Adriaan Willem Weissman (1858–1923), opened to the public in 1895 with a collection that benefitted greatly from the century that followed. Disrepair in the 21st century triggered a major renovation and, in 2012, the opening of a new, white and angular wing designed by the architectural firm Benthem Crouwel.
