A 553-room modern-feel hotel located immediately adjacent to the Central Station and within just minutes of a large chunk of all that is gay in Amsterdam, this Hilton-brand DoubleTree takes up an imposing and vast space — on the site of the old main post office — on island-like Oosterdok, with sexy, expansive and unobscured views of the city. Built as a Mint Hotel in early 2011 and taken over by Hilton later that year, this DoubleTree features a buzzy and open ground floor — with bars, cafés and a restaurant all seeming to meld into each other — and a fabulous top-floor indoor/outdoor SkyLounge (open very late at weekends), which takes the already delectable views had in many of the rooms to the extreme (major refurbishement in 2023). Clean lines, greys and whites define the rooms, each fit with a TV (previously iMacs in every room). And the room service is unusually accommodating. There's also an in-house library and a massive underground car park below, not to mention the offering of one of their signature warm chocolate chip cookies at check-in.
